Discover Ponte Vedra - St. Johns County School District

The district spans from St. Augustine all the way to Ponte Vedra Beach. In this video, Lisa met with Kelly Barrera, School Board Member for the St. Johns County School District, to talk about what’s happening in our district and what makes it so special.

St. Johns County has seen tremendous population growth in recent years. One of the factors that influence those relocating to our area is our excellent schools. Kelly Barrera explains that the SJCSD has kept up with this growth, stating that SJCSD has been “very purposeful with hiring” and “strives to hire only the best.” The school district has also made the commitment to maintaining the existing school facilities as well as building new structures.

One thing that makes the SJCSD unique from other districts is the academies program in high schools (and some middle schools). The Career Academies provide an opportunity for students to take specialized classes throughout all four years of high school based on their potential career fields. Looking to the future of the school district, Kelly Barrera explains that she’s excited about the district’s new phase of strategic planning where she expects to see even more support and opportunities for students.
